FASHION GRAFFITI: Guess Who's on the Host Committee for FNO Georgetown?

Me! I am a member of the 2010 Fashion's Night Out Georgetown Host Committee. I am so excited to be a part of this fantastic event. It is an honor to be working with such a dedicated group of folks at the Georgetown BID and Three Lockharts PR who are so focused against making FNO Georgetown a night to remember.

The Host Committee members are an esteemed group of people in DC whose lives regularly intersect with fashion. The other Host Committee Members include (pictured above): Me, Kelly Collis Fredrick (CityShopGirl), Angie Goff (WUSA-9TV), Jeff Dufour (UrbanDaddy DC); Top row left to right: Rachel Cothran (Project Beltway), Mary Amons (Labels for Love), Paul Wharton (Evolution Look) and Lana Orloff (Washington Life) [missing from pics was Lynda Erkiletian, The Artist Agency and Annie Lou Bayly, DailyCandy].

We had our official presentation to the media on Wednesday at Hu's Wear in Georgetown. Of course, I had to put blinders on so that I could not shop because there were some amazing pieces in Hu's Wear.

Welcome Our New Intern: Rukiya Anthony

We found an amazing fashionista masquerading as a poli sci major in D.C. Welcome our new summer intern, Rukiya Anthony. This young lady is beyond her years in so many ways. She is amazing and is a vintage lover (a girl after my own heart). She has an incredible knowledge of fashion and is very opinionated on the subject (which we LOVE!!!). So she will be taking over the Fab Vintage Finds during the summer. She will also give a peek into her style with Rukiya's Picks on Thursday. Fashionistas, show her some love!!!

The Capitol Fashionista is Turning One!

On January 16th, The Capitol Fashionista will turn One. Yeah for me. I started this blog out of my love, no, my obsession with fashion and all things fashion-related. I also believe that D.C. is a fashionable town despite our politicrit roots of gray suits and black wing-tip shoes. So my continuing mission is to bring the most fab stylish clothes, shoes, and accessories to DC fashionistas (and fashionistas everywhere) so that she can make the best choices in crafting her unique personal style.

Capitol Fashionista Outing: Robin Thicke/Jennifer Hudson Show

Okay. So the CF headed out last night with my girl, V to take in the Robin Thicke and Jennifer Hudson show at Constitution Hall. As usual, we were looking fab and of course, I had on fab shoes! To the credit of my DC sisters, there were very few fashion disasters to report. But there were two outrageous outfits of the night. One chick took booty shorts to a new level! It was warm but not that warm and it wasn't that type of party. She was ready for the pole. The other one was head-to-toe in turquoise looking a hot mess. Ladies, please invest in a full length mirror. It will save you from walking out the door looking crazy.



On to the concert. First of all, I was beyond annoyed that Robin Thicke came on first because he was the only reason why I got dressed. Did the CF score front row seats? Yes, I did. So you know that we were in heaven. We had an up close and way personal view. What a view. Wow! He is beyond sexy. He had on a pair of black jeans that kept sliding down. You know I had camera ready for that Kodak moment, right? LOL! He was worth every penny. The band was amazing, too. He and Jennifer Hudson shared the same band. It was brilliant because it totally made the setup go much more quickly than normal. He sang everything but my favorite song :-( which is "2 the Sky." I love that song. But still was a 10 out of 10 for me.




After a brief intermission, Jennifer Hudson came out. Trust that she will be somebody's momma in about six months 'cause girlfriend has got to be preggars. She did the mommy belly rub. If you haven't had kids, then you may not know what that is. But for my mommies out there, you know what it is. It's that rub you do over your belly for no reason but to remind yourself that you have someone amazing growing in there. So I am sold. She just needs to fess up. I have to admit that I was not really there to see her. She definitely has an amazing voice but I need you to have a few albums under your belt before I will spend my hard earned pennies. She was looking fab - definitely CF-approved. She had on a black shimmery tiered shift dress with black leather leggings and a pair of gorgeous wedge heels that tied up the front. She looked good. She put on a good show but she got a standing ovation when she performed "I Am Changing" and "I Am Telling You." I had to get up and give her props for those two songs. She blew the roof off of DAR.

All in all, it was a good concert and as always, I had a blast with my girl, V. Thanks, V. Sorry the pics are not better. My blackberry camera sucks. We couldn't bring in real cameras or so that is what it said on the ticket. Plenty of folks had cameras because they didn't even check. So I promise to have better pics of my next outing.

Capitol Fashionista Outing: Artini

My girlfriend and I attended the lovely Artini event on Saturday at the Corcoran Musuem sponsored by their 1869 Society. What a fantastic event. The mix of art and martinis, what could be better? Of course, I was decked out in my amazing Vera Wang dress. Too bad you can't see my fab shoes in this pic but you can tell that I was having a great time. The winning martini was "Tortoise and the Bare" by Erik Holzherr from Wisdom. But in my humble opinion (and my girlfriend's), it was not even close to being the best of the night. Sorry Erik. The best martini that crossed my lips was "Krake" by Chris Kelley from Mie N Yu. That martini was so good that we both had two! It was perfect. So I would totally recommend a trip to Mie N Yu. The most interesting martini of the night was called "A Rough Start to a Better Future" by Owen Thomson from Bourbon. First of all, it was served in a capri sun container (10 for originality) and it could take the paint off of the side of a barn. It was strong. Good, but strong. You could only have one.

Now on to the fashion. Seriously, is anyone reading this blog for fashion tips!?! Obviously not. There was plenty of bad fashion to be found. A lot of designer dresses with ugly cheap shoes. A lot of cheap dresses and even cheaper shoes. Ladies, get it right. There were a few glimmers of hope for DC fashion. There were about five women (other than me and my girlfriend... the truth is just the light...lol) who totally got it right. Drop dead gorgeous dresses with the perfect shoes. I made sure that I walked up to these fashion mavens and gave them a CF compliment. My favorite of the night was the woman I met in the ladies' room with her perfect Prada dress and her amazing vintage-styled red shoes. She was my pick of the night. I wanted to take her picture but I was rushing to get going because it was close to midnight.

All in all, it was an amazing event. The Corcoran raised a ton of money for their school and that really made me happy. Well done. Here are a few pics from the night.

Designer Spotlight: Luella Bartley

Luella Bartely wanted to see lots of color in her Spring line. She definitely accomplished this task. She uses the brightest pinks, oranges, and purples. What a collection. See more about the designer here.

What To Wear to the Inaugural Balls

Since I am a native Washingtonian, I am way excited about the Inauguration tomorrow. This town is a buzzin'! There is excitement everywhere and I am feeling it. Of course, there are so many parties going on. Things have been in full swing since Friday. I finally decided that I was going to go out and put to good use my new dress and my fab new shoes. I will try to take pics to post. But if I could wear whatever I wanted because someone gave me a pile of money to spend, here are some of the looks that I would go with:
