Designer Spotlight: Spanish Designer Elisa Palomino

Spanish fashion designer, Elisa Palomino caught my attention because I saw a few images of her F/W 2010 Collection and her flair for the dramatic was so intriguing that I had to go and check it out for myself. She pull together quite a few trends into one collection. Normally, I don't feel like that works but in Palomino's case, it just made you want more. It was cohesive because each piece brought its own drama to the runway. My fav without a doubt is the flapper-style dress with the fringes. Love that. {images via Elle.com}

Fashion’s Bold Step Forward

Edited by Ashe/Mischief Dramatis Personae

To be honest, I’ve been really excited about the content on the web lately…. because each week, it seems that fashion & style bloggers are making a bold step forward. In a niche that was once dominated by runway photographs and personal style posts, we’re evolving to include daring, thoughtful, provocative posts as well. I am continually shocked and amazed by the range of posts… from wearabout’s post on androgynous Indian men and Style Amor’s post on Arab women in fashion to posts about fashion blogging as a career at Style Eyes fashion blog.

Pretty, Pretty

Edited by Jennine Jacob

It’s official, Spring is in full swing… we’ve all shed our winter fluff and there’s a certain buzz in the air… well, other than the pollen count. Like every week, we have a wonderful selection of links, but the recurring theme here was making ourselves pretty, whether it be donning floral prints, DIY embellishments, watercoloring, even bunny ears or refreshing the ol’ makeup pallette with the new season’s colors.

Oh, and if you’re looking for something to do this summer… IFB is looking for interns!

Designer Spotlight: Hetty Rose Bespoke Shoes

Without a doubt, I love shoes. I love shoes more than so many things. So the idea of shoes made especially for me, makes me so giddy. The Hetty Rose label makes bespoke shoes.

Hetty Rose is the brainchild of Henrietta Rose Samuels. Samuels graduated from the London College of Fashion with a degree in Footwear Design & Development (Cordwainers). She studied for one year under the great footwear designer Georgina Goodman. She further honed her craft by working in London and Italy for handmade shoe companies.

The thought process: Hetty Rose "is based on a theory of re-using and re-working vintage materials in a creative and sustainable way, hand making gorgeous, feminine shoes to fit." Using primarily vintage Japanese kimono fabrics, a Hetty Rose original is born. Samuels selects the most interesting fabrics to work with to ensure that your prized possession is truly a one-of-a-kind design. The designs are very modern even though the styling is vintage. The two things that I love to see combined: modern and vintage = modern vintage. Love it.

Here are some of my favorite designs from her collection:

Deal of the Day: Old Navy

Today's deal is from Old Navy. Get this cute velveteen fringe bag for $29.50.

SNAPSHOT: The Fashion Photography of Don Brodie

One of my co-workers is getting married in October and turned me on to her amazing photographer, Don Brodie. He is a good friend of the groom. Isn't it great to have an amazing photographer as your friend? So he is gladly shooting their fall wedding in Vermont. But Don's day job is fashion photographer extraordinaire. He has such a great eye and makes you feel something when you look at his work. His images are surreal and a little haunting. He seems to expose little secrets about his subjects in these shots. Here are my favorites images from his portfolio.
