DC FASHION EVENT: FASHION INDUSTRY MIXER

DC FASHION EVENT: HALLOWEEN PARTY TODAY AT @TARIDC




GWFCC & TARI HOST HALLOWEEN DAY PARTY 

To raise money for the DC Fashion Foundation and to help small businesses stay in business! 

WHAT: 
The Greater Washington Fashion Chamber of Commerce and TARI will be hosting a Halloween Day Party at T-square in Georgetown. This event will aim to raise money and awareness for the DC Fashion Foundation and to help small businesses, like TARI, stay in business. Guest are encouraged to come dressed in their favorite Halloween costume or as their favorite fashion icon while they enjoy good food, specialty drinks, laughs, music by DJ Henry Aknnuoye, and goodie bags. During the party guest can sip and shop directly downstairs at high-end boutique consignment store TARI. With a donation of $20 guest will also receive a voucher for one beer or wine, and valet parking provided by U Street Parking Inc.

DC Fashion Foundation Announces Designers Chosen for Inaugural DC Fashion Incubator

DCFI Program Launches with Four Promising Local Designers

January 30, 2012 (Washington, DC) - The DC Fashion Foundation (DCFF) has announced the four designers chosen to participate in its inaugural DC Fashion Incubator (DCFI) program. The designers are Azadeh Tajdivand of her self-entitled Azadeh Tajdivand line, Gennet Purcell of Maven, Tatiana Kolina of My Mooty Booty and Isaiah Butler of Do You Clothing.

The DCFI, located at 760 N Street, NW, will provide a space for the designers to sketch, build and present their designs as well as connect to influential local mentors on brand development, financial planning, media relations, retail presentations and more with the ultimate goal of bringing their products to market and creating a successful economic venture. The designers were selected by criteria developed under advisement of Ayris Scales, Principle of 7 Concepts LLC and the past interim, Executive Director of DC Arts Commission. The panel represented the financial, business and design aesthetic sides of the fashion industry and included Theron Green, VP of Small Business Banking at Bank of America, Susan Clampitt, Commissioner at the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, Edward Archer, celebrity stylist and fashion industry entrepreneur, Lee Ann Stevenson of the Di Moda Group and Holeeta Todd, Principal at DC-based clothing manufacturer Cain & Carlyle Clothing Co. and lead designer and resident mentor at DCFI.

"These inaugural DCFI designers were chosen by their potential to develop their brand and designs to be ultimately become a successful business in various markets," says Christine Brooks-Cropper, President and Founder of DCFF and DCFI. "Our goal is to prepare them, as much as possible, to create a new and successful business that will add to job and economic development in the District."

The DC Fashion Foundation supports the local fashion industry of DC to engage and educate the community on fashion as an art as well as a business. The DC Fashion Incubator (DCFI) program has a primary objective to serve as the cornerstone of fashion industry small business development and entrepreneurship in Washington, DC educational programs, workforce training initiatives, and networking and mentoring opportunities for aspiring fashion professionals and entrepreneurs. In addition, 2012 applications for the Fashionably Business program, open to participation by the local design and fashion industry community, will begin in late February.

Additional mentors to these and future designers of DCFI were named as DC Fashion Ambassadors and include Aba Kwawu, Public Relations and Event Production, Adrian Loving, Runway and Event Music, Aureta Thomillori, Influential Blogger, Barbara McConaghy, Renowned Editorial/Celebrity/Runway Stylist, Christopher Reiter, Fashion and Design Retailer, Eric Brewer, Community Leader, Holly Thomas, DC Fashion Journalist, Janice Rankin, Fashion Design Educator, Jennifer Fisher, Fashion Industry Lobbyist, Lynda Erkiletian, Agent to Professiona Models and Stylists, Nora Sommerkamp, Professional Model.

DC FASHION EVENT: Get Your Street Glam On!


Street Glam 2010 Fashion Show


The much anticipated Street Glam Fashion Show produced by Downtown Silver Spring will take over Ellsworth Drive on Saturday, August 21, 2010 from 6-9pm. The fashion event will feature a VIP reception (6-7:30pm) and a fashion show (7:30-9pm) featuring Downtown Silver Spring merchants and leading and emerging local designers.



The outdoor European styled fashion show will commence with designs from internationally recognized retailers and local ready-to-wear designers. The first part of the show will feature Downtown Silver Spring merchants including New York & Company, Men's Wearhouse and Metamorphosis. The second part of the show will introduce ready-to wear designs by heavy-hitting local designers. Kustom Looks Clothier, part of the initial Street Glam movement, will again take part introducing designs that have been lauded and worn by pro athletes, politicians and Washington's elite. Booshie Designs, voted the best local designer in the Washington City Paper's "Best of" will also introduce a fun Fall line. Kas Collections, infamous for his edgy W.E.T line and his haute couture perspective, will also show a new exciting line that will be featured in his new store at the National Harbor. Thembe will woo attendees with her urban gamine styles which makes this designer a favorite amongst many trendy fashionistas. Ksara Boutique and Amore by Elizabeth Stajka, always on the edge of pop and fashion, will introduce a fun and flirty ready-to-wear line.



Fashionistas from Washington D.C. and beyond will want to be at this event. The VIP reception will feature complimentary image consultations by Capital Icon, meet the designer and model sessions, fashion industry networking, music, refreshments and imbibements.

The event will be rain or shine. In the event of rain, the fashion show location will be held at the Civic Building at Veterans Plaza at One Veterans Place, Silver Spring, MD (across from the Majestic Movie Theatre).



Viewing areas of the fashion shows are free to the public. Tickets for seats surrounding the runway will be sold for $25. Tickets for seats and VIP admission will be $50. FASHION COMPETITION: It's Project Fundway Time, Folks!


DC Fashion Foundation, the education and training division of the Greater Washington Fashion Chamber of Commerce (GWFCC), announced today that they are now accepting applications for “The Project FUNDway” scholarship program.

“The Project FUNDway” scholarship program is available to assist young men and women for outstanding academic achievement and commitment to the practice of fashion design. Eligible students must demonstrate academic promise, a strong interest in fashion design, merchandising, business of fashion or marketing, and show financial need. Maggy François, Vice President of Education and Training Division for GWFCC, stated that “educating our youth through design is an important investment in their futures. We must encourage our young people to dream beyond the stars, because there is so much passion in fashion; and with our support, we can help someone achieve that dream.”

Three final applicants will be selected based on style, individuality and quality, and invited to compete at “The Project FUNDway” runway competition, where their collections will be featured and modeled by “Top Models." The competition will be judged by an expert panel representing all facets of the fashion industry.

The winner will receive, but is not limited to a(n):

* $5,000 scholarship
* Internship with reputable DC based design company and private portfolio consultation
* Video portfolio/documentary by reputible media company
* Free one year membership to GWFCC
* Press Acknowledgment

Application postmark deadline is Wednesday, August 25, 2010.
