Indie Spotlight: Neiko Designs

There are very few things better than a beautiful handcrafted leather bag. The plush feel of the leather. It can be supple almost to the point of being erotic. So when I saw a bag by Neiko Designs as an Etsy spotlight, I had to see more. I want every bag but my purse strings are too short. But in my dreams, I would own all of these lovelies. See for yourself here.

Etsy Fashion Find: Afrique La Chic

This African-inspired tribal necklace and matching earrings are divine. It was so hard to pick a favorite piece by Afrique La Chic because there were so many fab pieces to choose from. See the entire collection here.

What I Want Now: Harajuku Lovers

I have always love the combination of yellow and green. I think that this color combo represents what spring is all about. Shoes by Harajuku Lovers. Available at Akira Chicago.

What I Want Now: Karl Lagerfeld

This is just the perfect white shirt. The black ruffles and piping make this shirt stand out. This shirt would look great with my black leggings. Shirt by Karl Lagerfeld. Available at s|sense.

What I Want Now: Orla Kiely

Just when you thought that Orla Kiely only does prints. Well she does more than just prints. This bag is way fab. Available at 80's Purple.

What I Want Now: Charlotte Russe

I love this top. You just can't go wrong with black. Available at Charlotte Russe.

As usual, there are shoes. I adore these raffia wedges from Burberry.

The leggings arrived yesterday which was amazing since I placed the order on Sunday. I just love 'em. Now to figure out what to wear 'em with. Hmmmmm.

I would have liked to see just a tad bit more color in their collection, their Spring/Summer '09 line does not disappoint. Fashion Recap: The Fashion Show

Well, The Fashion Show is certainly filling my fashion jones until Project Runway returns. I think it is because of my love for Isaac Mizrahi. Here's my recap from last Thursday's show:

Winning Design by Daniella

Runner-up Design, by Anna

EPISODE 2 - Half Priced Designs
This week the teams had to design an outfit for socialite Tinsley Mortimer on a budget of $40. The team that won the quick challenge got an extra $10. I loved the quick challenge. They had to dress two manequins: one was the expensive look and the other was the budget look. The teams remained the same from last week and team bolero jacket, Merlin's team, won the challenge.

The funny thing was that the brat, Kristin, went home. She was too immature for this competition. So Merlin was asked to move someone from his team to the team tube skirt since they were short one team member. Of course, he moved crybaby Daniella.

I have to say that for $40-$50, the majority of the outfits looked way more expensive. I would have worn just about all of the looks. The winner was Daniella and you know that I didn't think that she should have won. I really thought that Anna's look was better than hers. But I could live with it. As you know, the winning design is available for purchase on Bravotv.com. Also, I may have been wrong about the sizes in last week's post. The sizes for this week's winning design go up to size 18. So I am not sure if it changes week by week. Will keep you posted on that one but I am so glad to see the diversity in size availability.

Here are the losers:
Laura was sent home for this design

Johnny was in the bottom but was not sent home for this design

Markus was also in the bottom but was not sent home for this design

There was something not quite there in Laura's head. I can't wait for her to watch this episode. She was acting like a lunatic. The entire team told her NOT to buy the red tulle. Then after she bought the ugly red tulle, they told her NOT to use the red tulle on her design. So why did she insist on using that ugly red tulle? Your guess is as good as mine. She had the NERVE in her exit interview to say that no one told her not to use the red tulle. HELLO!!!!!!!! Everyone told you more than once. She was definitely the person who should have gone home.

Markus and Johnny almost went home for different reasons. I know from the front, Markus' dress looks beautiful but the silhouette of that dress was horrible! He just went overboard. He needed to pull way back. It started out as such a beautiful dress and then he just lost it. Johnny on the other hand was almost sent home for his jacked up attitude. He actually said the Isaac, "then send me home." If Laura's red tulle mess wouldn't have been there, he would have surely been sent home. Get it together, Johnny!

As usual Kelly R. got on my nerves. But Tinsley Mortimer was amazing. She was so gracious in her comments when she did not have to be since she was going to be wearing the winning design. Kudos to her for being such a class act.

On to next week. Maybe Daniella will grow up. Let's hope for the best.

You can catch full episodes over at Bravo TV.

Designer Spotlight: Georges Chakra

He thought that he wanted to be an interior designer. But after two years of study, he realized that his heart belonged to fashion. So he packed up and headed off to Canada to obtain a degree in fashion design at the Canadian Fashion Academy. And that was that. Lebonese designer Georges Chakra has shown two collections at Paris Fashion Week every year since 2002. This year was no different. Here are my favorites from his Spring/Summer 2009 collection. If you have a black tie affair coming up, one of these fab gowns will make folks stop in there tracks when you walk through the door. See his entire collection on his web site.

Fashion Recap: The Fashion Show

Okay. Sat and watched Bravo's Project Runway replacement called "The Fashion Show." I was sold when I learned that Isaac Mizrahi was the host. Love him! My heart broke when he decided not to renew his contract with Target. Overall the show was interesting but there were some things that got on my nerves (skip to Kelly Rowland). Here's my recap:

Winning Design by James-Paul

Runner-up Design, by Merlin

EPISODE 1 - The Must Have
I thought that there was a good mix of talent (and no talent) to make the show somewhat interesting. The quick challenge was great. They had to make an LBD out of a black T-shirt. That quickly separated the talent from the no talent. It will just be a matter of time for a few folks. The winners became the leaders of teams for the weekly challenge. On this challenge, they had to choose a must have piece. Then the team had to create different looks incorporating the must have piece to create a cohesive collection for the runway show. For me, none of them have a clue what a must have piece really is. A must have piece for your wardrobe includes a trench coat, a LBD, a pair of khakis, a jean jacket, a crisp white shirt, a well structured suit, etc.

The teams chose the following: harem pants (trend not a must have), bolero jacket (trend not a must have), and a tube skirt (seriously, no explanation needed). The team that designed the bolero jacket, Merlin's team won the challenge. The winning designer was James-Paul with Merlin's happening shorts outfit with the big A flower as the runner-up. I was very pleased with the outcome. Both designers were innovative and created something amazingly beautiful despite what Kelly Rowland and IM had to say!

There are a couple of cool things about this show as compared to Project Runway.

  1. The runway show is stacked with fashion insiders and fashion "folks in the know" who give comments and vote on each look.

  2. The runway is a true-to-life runway as if you were at Fashion Week.

  3. The contestants were judged on their own outfits not on the success of the team. I never thought that was fair because in the real world if you are the boss, folks WILL do what you say or they won't be working for you for long. Like Michael Kors would let someone tell him what he should design for his couture line - Not!

  4. You can buy the winning looks on Bravotv.com. I actually checked it out and the winning look was available in sizes 0 to 10. I'm shocked because the Project Runway outfits were only available in model sizes (0, 2 and maybe 4). The outfit is priced at $199.00.

  5. Isaac Mizrahi really has a big heart but is brutally honest just like Tim Gunn.

ISAAC MIZRAHI
It is very hard for me to say a harsh word about Mr. Mizrahi because I love him but I was annoyed with him when he said that he was ashamed of all of the designs. That was just rubbish. The two designs that were winner and runner-up were definitely fashion forward and in good taste. He was just acting. But I will let him slide, this week.

KELLY ROWLAND
HATE HER! Love her as a singer, hate her on this show. WHY? Who picked her. She is not even someone who regularly appears in In Style Magazine which settles the score about which celebrities have style. Not saying that she doesn't have style but she is not a trendsetter. So why is she the co-host? There just wasn't ANYONE else available, obviously. Can she get over living in Beyonce's shadow, please! Arrgghhh. She was just so negative as if she has some fashion credentials. But I digress.

MY FAVS
I adore Merlin and James-Paul. The jury is still out for me on a few folks.

MY "CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOU VOTED OFF" FAVS
Crybabies Daniella and Kristin - grow up!

Capitol Fashionista Outing: Mie N Yu

From left to right: Terri, Me, V, Michelle

Okay. You know that I raved about the Krake martini from the Corcoran's Artini event earlier this year. So it was time to enjoy a Krake at the home of its rightful owner, Mie N Yu Restaurant in Georgetown. First of all, the decor was amazing. The middle eastern decor was too fabulous. We sat in the coziest room ever. I was so relaxed and thirsty. We looked on the drink menu but didn't see the Krake. So V asked our server if they could make some. The answer was yes. I could not have been more happy. Boy, it was worth the wait. Our martinis didn't have the crushed candy confetti on the rim but that glass of blue goodness was still delish. Had to have two!

Dinner was scrumptious. I had the most tender piece of beef. I tried to cut it with a steak knife and it just surrendered and fell over. It melted in my mouth. Mmmmm. Too yummy. It was out of this world. Not to mention that it was enough food for two people. We all had amazing meals. The atmosphere was also perfect. Initially, they were playing middle eastern music but after awhile they went old school! I heard songs that I hadn't heard in a long time, like "West End Girls." Total blast from the past. I am adding Mie N Yu to my list of regular dinner spots. I was very impressed. If you go, ask for the Krake. Also try the lettuce wraps (V, Michelle and Terri loved 'em) and the lamb kabobs as appetizers.

Last Thursday, We headed on over to the Topaz Hotel to enjoy Martini and possibly lashes at the Martini and Lashes event sponsored by Uptown Girl Entertainment. I could not pass up an opportunity to buy a new piece of jewelry. Michelle and V didn't either. We had martinis but no lashes. One of the exciting things that happened was that me and V won door prizes. I would a lovely gift basket of goodies from Pampered Party and V won a gift certificate for a brazilian wax. Our goodie bags had some nice goodies including our very own pair of lashes. Saving those for later ;-) Here are some pics.

Indie Spotlight: Wonky Rocket

I really have a fondness for t-shirts. Especially t-shirts with something unusual but clever on the front or has a cool saying splashed across it. So I heart Wonky Rocket for their fabulous unique style called "the world of beasties." They have put their Wonky style all over these tees. My favorite is the Wonky Dog. Get your Wonky Rocket original here.

Etsy Fashion Find: Stilosissima

This is too adorable. Perfect with a white tee and a pair of jeans. Get the Little Magic World necklace at Stilosissima.

Designer Spotlight: Stella McCartney @ Net-a-Porter

I love Stella McCartney. She has never tried to use her famous name to get ahead. She rested on her own laurels to get where she is and her daddy said so! She also comes across as one of the most down to earth folks in the fashion industry. I really became a fan when I saw her on Sundance's Iconoclast with artist Edward Ruscha. I love how their collaboration was brought to life in her clothes. Amazing. So I was excited about her exclusive collection for Net-a-Porter. So I went and checked it out. I love her clean lines and simple, but elegant styling. Just wished there were a few more pieces. Here are my favorites. See the entire collection at Net-a-Porter.

Local Fashion Spotlight: See by Chloe at Hu's Shoes

Totally want these bronze beauties. DC Fashionistas, pick up your See by Chloe sandals at Hu's Shoes in Georgetown.

Designer Spotlight: Alena Akhmadullina

Russian designer, Alena Akhmadullina studied at the St. Petersburg State University of Technology and Design form 1995 to 2000. She presented her first collection, Autumn/Winter 01/02, at Russian Fashion Week. Her design astethic is heavily influenced by Russian culture. It is evident in the patterns she chooses. It is also evident in the rusts, blues and greens and burgandy colors in her Spring/Summer '09 collection. There are also very deliberate silhouettes that remind you of the tops of Russian cathedrals. Here are my favorites. You can see her entire collection on her web site.

POSH uses social networking sites Twitter and Facebook to share information with consumers about upcoming events, musical performances, menu items, as well as answer their questions about the restaurant. In addition, they will be launching a blogger outreach initiative to communicate with the foodie & nightlife themed blogs. You can follow Posh on Twitter (http://twitter.com/poshdc), and on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Washington-DC/POSH-Restaurant-and-Supper-Club/59022747349).

They have quite a few hot nights planned each month including "Girlfriends Night Out" – a $28 three course menu which includes complimentary manicures – and "Old School Funk Fest" – an 80-inspired evening hosted by BK Kirkland of "The Groove" on Sirius XM Radio and featuring the music of DJ Woody Wood. They also have "Karaoke Night" every Wednesday.

I have attended the "Old School Funk Fest" on two occasions and we had a ball! The DJ played all of the old school jams like "Apache" and "This is How We Do It" and even went back to some old Parliament. He was spinning all the right old school tunes. Both times, our dinner was fabulous. The portions were good and the meal was delivered in a timely manner. My friends and I also love the atmosphere. It has an open layout which sets the perfect mood. Check out Posh when you are looking for a restaurant with great food and great ambience.
